From Complex to Clear - Helping Startups Explain Themselves Clearly
I’ve been to networking a lot recently and have met with a wide range of startups from very different sectors. Some are working on incredible solutions to major global problems. Others are creating tools that are simply useful in everyday life.
The pattern I noticed is that most founders can explain their business clearly when you meet them in person. You listen for five or ten minutes and you understand what they do. The difficulty comes when they need to communicate that same clarity in a format that reaches people outside the room.
The Communication Challenge
As someone who runs a startup myself, I understand how hard it can be to describe what you do in a way that is both concise and engaging. The goal is to:
Capture attention quickly
Show the problem you are solving
Give people a reason to want to know more
Convince potential investors that your idea deserves their backing
This is not easy, but it is essential if you want to grow.
Why Creative Marketing Matters
At Tone Def. we work with purpose-led businesses that want to make a positive difference in the world. Our role is to use creative production to help them communicate that mission.
For many startups, marketing feels like a distraction or a cost they would rather avoid. In reality, investment in marketing at an early stage can accelerate growth and help a business reach the people who matter most. A clear story told well builds trust and opens doors.
Content That Works
There are many ways a startup can bring its story to life. Examples include:
Infographics, branded collateral, and landing pages
Short explainer videos that introduce the business
Longer form content such as YouTube videos for people who want more depth
Interactive experiences and creative campaigns that drive people into a funnel
Our collective has produced all of these. Motion design by El, Wouter or Chloe, branded assets by Anna, Alessandra, Jo or Malena, interactive projects by Charly or Graceful Monkey and films by Savage Films are just a few examples of what is possible. Whatever the format, the aim is always the same: to spark interest and encourage people to explore further.
Our Workshop
At Tone Def. we start with clarity before moving into production. We offer a half-day workshop that acts as both a consultation and an inspiration session.
In the workshop we help founders:
Define the clearest way to explain what they do
Identify the right types of content for their stage of growth
Plan how creative production can support their goals
Once that foundation is in place, our network of designers, studios, and creatives can deliver the right content to the right level.
Take the First Step
If you are a startup or scale-up looking to explain your business in a way that excites investors, partners, or customers, we would love to help.
